TEFMAN: FEEL GOOD MUSIC
The title Feel Good Music embodies the entire vibe of the album. Tef Man is a positive artist. Always acknowledge the negativity of the world, yet always reminding the listener to disregard it.
“Feel Good Music” definitely has its list of possible singles. The current lead single is “Do It For The Love” (Click here for video). Songs like “Stop The Violence” and “Move Wit The Money “ can easily be follow-up singles.
Feel Good Music is truly an experience from front to back. There are a string of tracks during the middle of the album transition the project quite nicely.
FEEL GOOD MUSIC
Dope intro. Sets the tone for the project out the gate. Definitely has a retro feel to it. Nice production by Scattered Brains. Very melodic; I love the breakdown.
DO IT FOR THE LOVE
Following the intro with the single. I think the sequencing of the album is great; “Do It For The Love” is placed perfectly. Continuing on the positive vibe. Produced by DJ Pain 1. Dope track.
RUNNING OUT OF TIME
This appears to be the next single. Not sure if it’s a sample or guest appearance on the chorus but I really like. Hard drum beat. The vibe really fits on all elements. The mood of the album begins to get to get a little darker.
TRAPPED IN THE GAME
Here Tef is telling a story of being exactly what the title says, “Trapped in the Game”. I feel this record can definitely reach out to the misguided youth. I really like the timing of it. Even though Tef Man talks about the negativity of the world, he is sure to offer a solution, or a “remedy”.
THE REMEDY
I must admit I’m a hip hop head/sample junkie. This Rickaby production is simply dope. I love the vocal chops. Very ‘DJ Premo-ish.” Dope record. HIP HOP MAKES EVERYTHING ALL RIGHT…
REHAB
Rehab is definitely a possible single. Obvious analogy of a woman but executed very well. I just really like the feel of this song. DJ Pain 1 production. Bee Welz does really well on the chorus.
ASTRONAUT
“Astronaut” begins a nice three track run. This is another analogy for a relationship. Well placed. Great imagery. Tef Man does well at keeping the mood of the track in it’s right zone. More great work from a singer on the chorus in “J Stills”.
SPACESHIP
“Spaceship” continues with the whole “elevation of self” vibe that I get from Feel Good Music. Solid song.
CRASH LANDING
“Crash Landing” is just that, a return to reality from Tef and his spaceship. I think this really raises the vibe of the album at the right time. I think Tef energy is amazing. Yet another dope chorus.
STOP THE VIOLENCE
In my opinion, this song should be a single. Record is all around dope. Los is on the beat and chorus. Los is very talented and he captured Tef Man’s direction flawlessly. Tef is jacking a little bit lyrically and I like it. This is by far one of the best songs on the album.
READY TO GO
I feel like this song should have been the outro and the next 5 songs should have been bonus tracks. This is just me being a nitpicker. Solid record that I really felt tied up and could have concluded Feel Good Music seamlessly.
SLIPPIN
This song has a classic NY feel. Solid track.
MOVE WIT THE MONEY
Chaos murders this! I’ve been checking for him for quite awhile. Tef and Chaos have two completely different sounds sonically, however, on this track they mesh seamlessly. One of my favorite songs on the album.
LINE DOWN THE BLOCK
Beat knocks. Tef flow is nice on it. Not bad.
GET DOWN OR LAY DOWN
Song is cool.
TURNT UP
I definitely think this song should have been sequenced in the project earlier. Dope beat, good hook. It’s definitely catchy as hell! Song does exactly what I believe Tef set out for it to do.
Rating: 3/5
Room For Improvement:
I think Tef has the whole song making down. What I would like to see more of from Tef is a more versatile delivery. I feel like I’ve heard all these flows done before by various east coast artists. I really like the beat selection of the project. It all fit together and tied in really nice. However, the production sounded dated. It had a lot of early 2000 sounding New York beats on it. I feel this is useful in moderation, but not over the course of a full album in 2013.
Last Words:
Tef is an inspiration for the entire Madison Hip Hop scene. I look forward to more visuals for Feel Good Music and for whatever he follows with.
